Our House Gets Stranger All the Time

For new readers,

and I bought our first house back in June.  Two of the four bedrooms and the living room have a fairly fugly gold carpet with a pattern our friend Rodney promptly proclaimed looked like a close up of a petrie dish.

Costco had flooring on sale last month so last night, while I was at The Tech Rehearsal That Wasn't,

and CrownWench pulled up the carpet in the bedrooms.

This linoleum, which they dubbed Shop Class Gray, was under the carpet in the once and future man-cave.

This beauty was in the purple room.

I love our weird house!

thats not so bad. Sometimes you can clean linoleum up nice. Checkerboard is unusual tho for a living space. Too bad it wasn't wood floors. I was looking at a house years ago, had the FUGLIEST Carpeting in it. Pulled a corner back and had BEAUTIFUL wood floors in pristine condition under it. Lost the bid on the house tho :(

A flat I once lived in had khaki lino tiles in the kitchen and bathroom. the hall, bedrooms and lounge were in a mid-brown. I thought those were bad until I saw that photo of your purple room.

What are you planning to put down?

That is one think I am so glad about that I don't have to worry about since our house is brand new. Our next house won't be though. :( Our next house will be hopefully a bit bigger than what we have now and probably a fixer upper.

I'm with Ali above--that I like it too. ;-) I would so be keeping that one and not hide it! ;-)

The tiles make me think of work!

If you need to remove those vinyl tiles before putting your new flooring down it's really easy. First, disable all of your smoke detectors. Next, get a bucket of water and keep a good sized rag in it and handy. Now take a propane torch and gently wave it 1-2 inches above the tile you are going to remove first. Scrape at the warmed tile with a 3" putty knife or razor scraper. Keep a pair of pliers handy to help with any stuck edges. :) Can you tell I do that a lot at work?

It's actually pretty fun.
I love seeing the strange stuff that is found under flooring!

This might just add to the rumors I am a closet hetero, but I don't see anything wrong with the checkerboard linolium floor.

WEIRD HOUSES FOR THE WIN!!! *we (and by we I mean my parents...what i'm poor and they don't charge me rent!) bought ours while it was still under construction so nothing too weird is every found in our house. Matter of fact I think almost every home I've ever lived in baring college was brand new when we moved in.

I like the checker look. But I guess it would depend on what you wanted to use the room for. Let us know what you decided to do!
