Weekend

Good weekend, but crazy-long.

I taught my final SM class Friday night. It was a strange experience. Monday night I had one kid who really wants to be an actor/writer when he grows up, but he has correctly sussed out that the only way he'll make money in theatre is to learn tech. Tuesday I had the kid, my SM for Harvey and the Managing Director of the company. Wednesday we were off so I could house manage Music Machine at the PAC. Thursday was just my SM and the Managing Director. Friday...just the Managing Director. To be fair, the kid sent a very, very nice email thanking me for the class and telling me how much he had learned and how sorry he was to miss the rest of it and my SM was throwing up all day Friday so I really didn't want him to come in anyway.

After that I went to see lonelydumptruck in In Their Own Words: Emma Goldman & Adolph Fischer. It was in the Carey Building in Mountain View and part of the gallery's First Friday event. It was a huge crowd - I ended up in the very back standing half under a speaker tree. The show went very well. The only downside was that people in the lobby didn't know it was going on, so they were loud. We sent at least one shusher, but it didn't last.

Rodney, jdawgspi and her boyfriend were there (as were many other good people, including mommie, but the story is about the first three. After the show, Rodney mentioned his birthday was on the weekend. we asked what he wanted to do and he asked if we could host a BBQ Saturday and then we could all go out for ghetto karaoke. We agreed, then jdawgspi went off to find her boyfriend in the crowd and lonelydumptruck headed over to Rodney's to watch season 3 of Venture Brothers.

Saturday I House Managed for Music Machine again and we got ready for the party after that. It was really fun, one of the best parties we've had. About 10-15 people came and we stayed up until after 3 sitting around the fire and talking. lonelydumptruck wasn't quite ready for bed when the last guests left, so we watched some more Venture Brothers.

Sunday I House Managed. Again. This time it was for the Air Force Band of the Pacific. Only the drummer and the brass section (the part of a band Nervis Rex calls The Brassholes) were there. I was expecting a steady diet of Soussa, but the second song they played was Rubber Duckie. They also did Bohemian Rhapsody and Hawaii 5-0. There was rehearsal for the Brr-lesque show, but I got to Koots as it was wrapping up. One of the dancers wants me to do the snake puppet in her number, so I got the puppet and I'll see what to do with it at our next rehearsal.

I finally got word back from the orthopedic doc this morning and he can fit me in tomorrow. I am sooo relieved because I'm still a bit swollen from last Thursday's work. My right shoulder started behaving the moment I hung up the phone, of course.

That's the news for the week, heading back to work now!
