LOL
I thought we were the only family that did the pspspspspsps sound...hahaha
Yeah, I read the whole thing but I'm more impressed someone spelled that and I recognize it! Hahaha

I think a lot of people do! Our kids never seemed to like it

I believe my parents do that with their cats to their attention. Also, saying "here kitty, kitty" in a high pitched voice as well.

We tend to do the high-talking more than anything else

All our cats know their names...and each other's names. Old Sam will come running when I call his name in the evening to get back in the house for bedtime. Young Rocky is not always done with playing. But when I call Rocky's name, Sam will glare off into whatever bush Rocky is hiding, LOL.

Lol!!

Mao knew his name. lonelydumptruck didn't believe me when I told him that and spent several minutes trying out different words to try to get Mao to react, including "Mmmmmmmmm-mmmooouse!" When lonelydumptruck finally said "Mao!" he whipped his head around with this savage "Meow!" which could only be interpreted as "Would you fuck off now!"

I do the pspsps as well when talking to the neighbour cat.
And then I discover that its owner is outside on the balcony as well ...
Oops.

OMGatos, that made me laugh! Especially since I'm fond of calling my cats (boys included!) a bunch of bitches.

:D

I think a bitch of cats is an appropriate group name!

Although, allow me to add that, in rural areas at least, we have different noises to summon different animals. For cats, it's traditionally a 'tchtchtch' you make with the tip of your tongue against the roof of your mouth, just behind your top teeth. For dogs, it's a 'pchpchpch', which is a kissing sound made with your lips. Horses, the sound is similar to a cat call, but made further back in your mouth, sort of with both sides of your tongue against your molars. Cows = "Co-boss! Co-boss!" and hogs = "Soo-eee! Soo-eee!"

Modified Scottish version.
Say cat's name, and then get your fuzzy ass/butt over here now.
