Goals

Hokay.

I set a goal to watch 52 new (to me) movies this year. This week I will be able to add number 52 to my list and I am looking to you for recommendations!

Ask questions, make suggestions, I am all ears.

Well, I don't know what you've seen, but Local Hero is a must!

Interestingly, Local Hero is my all time favorite movie.

I would recommend Tano da Morire (an Italian movie musical about the mafia) but it would be hard to find.

How do you feel about vampires? What We Do in the Shadows is hysterically funny. Or, if you want a serious vampire movie, the original Swedish version of Let the Right One In is intriguing.

If you can handle a certain amount of poor taste, try Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead.

Second both of the vampire movies.

A few lesser known movies I’ve liked: Dark City (1998), Safety Not Guaranteed (2012), and Being John Malkovich (2000)

I love Local Hero too. :)

How about Mildred Pierce? Double Indemnity? The Postman Always Rings Twice? Holiday (1938)?

Or, not in B&W, Crossing Delancey, American Dreamer, or Far From Heaven?

I'm not sure if you've seen these, but...

1) . The Triplets Of Belleville. A masterpiece.

2) . Spirited Away. Another masterpiece.

3) . Chatter Box. A movie about a woman with a talking vagina (that can also sing), this movie will fulfill your "OMGWTF" quotient for the month.

4) . V For Vendetta. Especially timely now.

That should do for a start.

I think I've seen Triplets, or at least part of it and I know we've seen Spirited Away. We own V but I've only seen it once, might be time to dust it off...

the curse of the were-rabbit, which is a wallace and gromit movie and thus adorable and silly.

payback, which is violent and darkly funny and should have a slight blue tint. (evidently it was redone or something and isn't as blue any more. the blue was a really neat cinematography choice.)

if you're a go on vampires trying to live modern lives, only lovers left alive (weird and romantic). if you're a go on vampires trying to eat everyone in the vicinity, 40 days of night (creepy as shit). and i second the original let the right one in (disturbing and sad and i mean those as positives).

Recommendations? Any genres in mind? What are your favorite movies? That will help with recs.

If I want classics, I go for The Thin Man series or Metropolis (the silent film version).

Anything campy is good.

In Bruges has a place in our hearts too.

I am a big fan of horror and sci-fi. lonelydumptruck is fond of heist movies, action films and documentaries about bands. Some of my favorites are Blade Runner, The Princess Bride, Ran, Amazing Grace and Chuck, Fish Story, Cabin in the Woods and The Commitments.

I saw the first Thin Man years ago, but not any of the sequels and we started Metropolis once...

We’ve watched ‘Sausage Party’ last week. It’s, uh, something else, that’s for sure.

If you’re looking for something that makes you go ‘wtf am I watching, Sausage Party would be it.

Have you watched "When Marnie was There" or "Up on Poppy Hill" yet? They are both cartoons, but we love them

I'm quite a fan of old 80s films so WarGames is one of my favourites. It's a classic!

Some favorites off the top of my head: Clue, Alien, Aliens,...the next thing that came to mind was Jurassic Park, which you've probably seen.

I recently(ish) watched & enjoyed: What we Do in the Shadows; The Greatest Showman; Peeping Tom; & Casablanca (I know I'm way behind the curve on that last one.
