Is it me, or is she describing using Facebook like Livejournal?

tl;dr
I actually usually get offended by this: "The Like function has saved me so much comment-typing over the years ..." -- I guess that's how every one must be! I have had friends go days/weeks without talking to me but I'd see their stupid little like on a post. Maybe I was expecting something more like Livejournal comments? But, I also thought in my head that we were "better friends than that". Meaning we'd actually communicate with words instead. I wish people used FB like Livejournal, although with as many friends people gather there, I can imagine it could get pretty impersonal.

Yes, I think the same. That is just what she is saying - though we do longer entries. I think it's a wonderful article and I think I'm also going to try it, lol.

I just LOVE facebook as you know, ha!

There are a couple of people on my FL here whom I intentionally didn't friend on FB because I was told that they both get too LJ-personal on FB. I'm sorry, they're two totally different sites with two totally different ways of communicating. No way I'm going to to discuss things there they way I do here.

OTOH I just might try stopping the "like". I'd like to see what happens on my feed...

I'm gonna try stopping using the like button and see what happens. I don't use FB like I use LJ. LJ is personal, FB more surface. But I don't like the fact that there are people on my friends list who never actually talk to me!

I use FB more like a Nintendo than an LJ

You're right! I guess the main difference being that because in LJ we blog rather than share brief "tweet-length" snippets of our lives, and because responses are directed toward more than just one aspect of a post, we tend to have conversations with each other, and that generates more closeness and warmth. Okay, granted, you can have a conversation on FB, but its format structures more of a, "Here, have my opinion, bye now!" approach to posting/commenting than LJ, which fosters more introspection.

I like what bebe de lune said about "likes" vs. comment being a sign of friendship level on FB. I have the same reaction!
