Down (cats) and closed (earthquake country), but open on the last one because it's a front loader and will mildew otherwise.

Or because I have OCD, whatever you like. ;)

1) Up, because who doesn't look where they're sitting?

2) Closed because I don't want to run into cabinet doors.

3) Open because there's no reason to enclose stinky sock fumes.

1. keep it all down so the feces doesn't splatter when you flush!

2. closed just because it's neater

3. open because I have a front loader and I don't want it stinky.

Are these trick questions?
1. There's no good way to answer this one.
2. Open when I'm getting something out or putting something away; closed all other times.
3. Well, if I had a washing machine, or if I did my own laundry (I send it out), I would have the door open if I was putting laundry in, or if I was taking laundry out; otherwise, closed. Especially when it's doing its washing machine thang!

Down, keeps the cat from playing in the water, or if she wants to jump up on it.

Mostly closed, but if they're open an inch or two it doesn't bother me.

Open! Needs air so it doesn't grow mold or something. Dryer stays closed.
